CPRN makes sure facts get to the people
St. Tammany Parish officials and first responders recently gathered to discuss preparations for the 2025 Hurricane Season and address concerns about government accountability.
St. Tammany Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness Director Clint Ory led the meeting of state and local leaders to offer insights and announce changes to resources available to address disasters.
Brig. Gen. Jason Mahfouz addressed the crowd and said, “It’s an honor to be amongst first responders and mission partners.” He explained that GOHSEP, the department that manages the state’s emergency preparedness, is now merged with the Louisiana National Guard, under Mahfouz’s command.
With rumors and reports about the status of FEMA, he assured those in attendance that in Louisiana, “The mission remains the same, there is no impact to mission which is to alleviate suffering, protect infrastructure and allocate resources where there is the greatest need.”
Other speakers included the National Weather Service and Troop L.
Chief Elwin ‘Warhorse’ Gillum of the Tchefuncta Nation, Chahta Tribe founded the CPRN - Community Preparedness Response Network. Tribal members are first responders in the event of disasters and conduct All-Hazards Training and relief throughout the year.
